Queen Moxie by Hank Quense – A Book Review

February 13, 2018

If you have read the stories of Camelot; if you know whom King Arthur is and have heard of the knights and sitting at the round table; if you have ever read the Sunday Funnies and went to read Prince Valiant first before you read any other funny;  if the folklore stories about the Normans, Saxons, and Vikings excite you; then, you are going to love Queen Moxie by Hank Quense.

Quense says at the bottom of his book that it is a Strange Worlds Story. However, I say it is a story that depicts the beginning of civilization among the Irish, English, Scots, and the northern countries of Norway and Sweden. It is a beautiful tale.

A queen who is pulled between defending her country and loving her daughter who has already decided that reigning may not be her cup of tea.

Quense’s humor also prevails, whether it is in his previous books, or in this one.  He has a way of capturing your attention, and without your knowing it, you are engaged in a world that used to be.

The character that fascinated me the most was Tristan.  I had to laugh, although it may have been inappropriate, as Aethelwine changed her mind about her plan to wed Tristan. Quense did an excellent job of weaving him in and out of Queen Moxie.

Queen Moxie, a tale that resurrects the knighthood, honor, and loyalty to a Queen and brings back to life Merlin and his magic. It is a book that you do not want to miss reading.
