An unsolved murder. A dead body in a garden. A widower, searching for a reason to live. A divorcee, heavily scarred with wounds of betrayal.  The Cold Blue Blood by David Handler offers believable themes that draw you into his world.

A prologue sets the scene for chapter one. In it, Handler describes the strange death of a woman.  Murdered, the woman lands as a criminal case on the desk of Lieutenant Desiree Mitry.

Film Critic, Mitch Berger, forced by his employer, Lacy, to leave his hideout in New York City, travels to Dorset, Connecticut on an assignment as he looks for his Raison D’être.  His discovery while digging up ground for a garden brings him and the ladylove of his life, Lieutenant Desiree Mitry together.

Handler places tension and curiosity in the dialogue of the two primary characters. Their inquisitiveness, the sensory perception flowing between them, sets them up to become soul mates, and their feelings deepen as they work through the murders in Dorset.

The subtleness in their relationship is genuine and refreshing. Berger and Mitry display a childish naiveté sprinkled with a healthy dose of maturity as both seek healing from the pains from the past.

However, Handler gives us more than Mitch Berger, Desiree Mitry and a couple of murders. He pulls back the curtain so that we see Dorset’s citizens––some hiding behind a hideous past. We come away knowing that an affluent town such as Dorset is not exempt from gossip, jealousy, envy, illicit affairs and murder.

The Cold Blue Blood is an excellent read and is available at bookstores, Amazon, iTunes, and other online book purchase websites.

  3. I loved this book. It’s a great introduction to this unusual crime-fighting couple. Unfortunately, I left the library book in El Paso! I wonder if the hotel will return it to the library for me.

    • I love it too, Jacqui. It was a great introduction. Maybe the hotel in El Paso will mail the book back to you. It is worth a try. Good luck.
