Review Introduction: The Berger and Mitry Series by David Handler

February 23, 2016

Goodreads does have its advantages. Until two weeks ago, I had never heard of the Berger & Mitry Series by David Handler. As I was scrounging through my Goodreads mailbox, a comment posted in the interracial section about Berger & Mitry awakened my curiosity, and I downloaded Book One –The Cold Blue Blood at Amazon Germany.

The prologue sucked me in, and chapter one convinced me. Like a drowning reader needing air, I floated upward into the world of Berger and Mitry and did not put the book down until I had read it in its entirety.

If you love Miss Marple and Mr. Stringer, Adam Dalgliesh and Kate, Peter Wimsey and his ladylove Harriet Vane, William Monk and Hester, or Thomas and Charlotte Pitt, then you will fall in love with Mitch Berger and Desiree Mitry.

The series has a touch of expectancy that keeps you reading; it entangles you in a world of multiculturalism. A graduate of WestPoint, Desiree Mitry served her country well and is now with the Major Crime Squad in Connecticut. Her daddy, called The Deacon, is the second in command of the Connecticut State Police, and Mitry, a woman of color, sports a Rasta look, and Handler does not shy away from describing the most important part of her amply well-endowed anatomy.

Mitch Berger is a renowned movie critic recovering from the death of his beloved young wife, Maisie. Forced to take a time out in the small wealthy village of Dorset, Berger discovers a crime, which brings him and Mitry together.

For the next eleven weeks, I’ll present each book of the Berger & Mitry Series on my book review blog.

  1. This sounds interesting, even though I have to say it might not be the right book for me. Thanks for sharing this great review though, Patti.

I think you would like the series. This is the first book and it drew me in. Amazing, I have read the entire series and can’t wait until he finishes book number twelve and it comes on the market.
I’m looking forward to our writer’s chat in April. Have a great day. Shalom, Patti
